South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) runs a wide range of community and hospital-based services for people with mental health problems or an addiction to drugs or alcohol. SLaM provides care and treatment for children, adults and older people living in south London, and specialist services for people who can be referred from across the country. These include the National Psychosis Service, which is based at the Bethlem Hospital in Kent.

SLaM works closely with the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King’s College London, and many mental health professionals employed in SLaM's services also carry out research at the IoP. This partnership means that lessons learned from research can be used to develop better treatments for people who live locally, and for people across the UK. The two organisations jointly host the UK’s only specialist National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health.

SLaM is also part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), along with King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts. By working more closely together through King’s Health Partners, the organisations involved hope patients will benefit from breakthroughs in medical science and receive the newest and best treatment at the earliest possible opportunity.
