About the information on this site
The primary aim of mentalhealthcare.org.uk is to offer reliable, evidence-based and up-to-date information to family members and friends of people with psychosis (living in England and Wales) to help them in their caring role.
The information on the site will also be relevant and useful to people with psychosis, and to GPs and mental health professionals.
People living or working in other parts of the UK or in other countries may also find much of the information useful. However, some of the information (like the Mental Health Act page) is only relevant for people living or working in England and Wales.
The content of the site is based on:
a) research undertaken and information provided by expert academics and mental health professionals who work at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, or
b) research undertaken and information provided by expert academics and mental health professionals who work at other organisations and collaborate with, or have links with, Institute of Psychiatry researchers.
We also use publications from the Department of Health and other statutory organisations (like the Care Quality Commission) as a source of information.
If you would like to know more about the sources we have used, please email mhcfeedback@gmail.com or send your request via the contact page.
The Information Standard
The Information Standard was awarded to the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, in September 2010 for mentalhealthcare.org.uk. Professor Elizabeth Kuipers, head of the department, led the launch of mentalhealthcare.org.uk in February 2010 and continues to be in charge of its ongoing development.
Developed by the Department of Health, the Information Standard ‘quality mark’ aims to help members of the public easily identify trustworthy information, and give them confidence in what they read. To be able to display the mark, organisations have to undergo a rigorous certification process and demonstrate that they produce information that is accurate, impartial, balanced, evidence-based, accessible and well-written.
The Information Standard was awarded for a three-year period, during which time there are annual one-day inspections to make sure the site continues to comply with the scheme’s strict criteria. Following an inspection in September 2011, the next inspection is due in September 2012.

The Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London shall hold responsibility for the accuracy of the information they publish on mentalhealthcare.org.uk and neither the Information Standard quality mark scheme operator nor the scheme owner shall have any responsibility whatsoever for costs, losses, or direct or indirect damages or costs, arising from inaccuracy of information, or omissions in information published on the website.
